Air Liquide in the UK announces it will supply locally produced biogenic CO2, a crucial raw material for many applications across various sectors including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. In this respect, Air Liquide will leverage its biogenic CO2 production facility at the Wissington Bioethanol plant in the UK. By offering biogenic CO2 , Air Liquide contributes to the reduction of the CO2 emissions of its customers and circular economy.
Air Liquide’s Wissington plant is one of the largest sources of biogenic CO2 in the UK. Located adjacent to British Sugar's bioethanol plant in Wissington, Air Liquide's CO2 plant is strategically positioned to derive biogenic CO2 as a by-product of the bioethanol production process. Through purification and liquefaction processes, Air Liquide ensures a reliable supply of food-grade biogenic CO2 to its customers throughout the region.
Air Liquide already supplies biogenic CO2 in the UK coming from biogas and the additional supply from Wissington will contribute to meeting consumers' increased demand for low carbon products. By using biogenic CO2, Air Liquide customers can reduce their CO2 emissions (scope 1 and/or scope 3).
Reida Benbelkacem, General Manager of Air Liquide in the UK, stated: "We are delighted to reaffirm our commitment to our customers in the UK. By providing locally sourced biogenic CO2 to various industries, we empower our customers to manufacture products with reduced carbon emissions, thereby fostering the circular economy."
